International Arts Carnival 2008

By Festivals Office, Leisure and Cultural Services Department, HKSAR

The International Arts Carnival is a territory-wide performing arts festival held every summer in Hong Kong.  From 11 July to 17 August 2008, the Carnival is going to bring an array of entertaining and educational programmes to children and family audiences, ranging from physical theatre, music, black light theatre, dance, musical, drama, juggling, puppetry, mask theatre to film. A series of extension activities such as pre-carnival school tours, workshops, guided tours, exhibitions, fun day and outreach programmes are also in line.

This year, a special series will be organized in support of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games in which there is the opening programme – AEROS, a physical dance theatre performed by top athletes from the Romanian Gymnastics Federation, some of them are World or European Champions.

Choreographed by three renowned choreographers -- Daniel Ezralow, David Parsons and Moses Pendleton in collaboration with STOMP creators, AEROS captures the thrill and power of gymnastics art through a grand-scale theatrical performance with dazzling effects and pulsating score. This fabulous programme will be staged at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Grand Theatre during 11 – 13 July 2008.

Another programme in the same series is the physical theatre Park and Art produced by Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong.  Performed by The Wild Zappers (USA), Theatre of the Silence (HK) and young talents from Youth Outreach (HK), the show advocates mutual understanding and social inclusion through interaction of three different physical forms – hip hop, yoga and tai chi. It is scheduled at Ngau Chi Wan Civic Centre Theatre during 1-3 August 2008.  More programme information can be found on this website: www.hkiac.gov.hk
