A state-of-the-art performance space in South India, the Sir Mutha Venkatasubba Rao Concert Hall has been set up for the propagation of Indian and western arts and culture. The Sir Mutha Venkatasubba Rao Concert Hall is a unit of an 80-year old social service organisation – The Madras Seva Sadan Founded by Sir M. and Lady Andal Venkatasubba Rao.
Situated in central Chennai on Harrington Road, the first phase of the complex consists of an 1132-seat theatre, a 200-seat open-air performance area, an art gallery, a coffee shop and an art school. The second phase of the complex will add a 400-seat experimental theatre, and a reference library for performing arts.
Sir Mutha Venkatasubba Rao Concert Hall is managed by a team of passionate enthusiasts who have worked with the best of International & National concerts and events staged in India in the last 15 years.
The Concert Hall has modern facilities and superb acoustics by world-renowned acoustician Andy Munroe from London. The first of its kind in South India, this spectacular Concert Hall meets international standards in performing spaces; its features include state-of-the-art flying system technology for sound with, cutting-edge acoustics that enrapture the entire audience. The Hall is fan shaped with a concave back wall with seating in two levels with 1,132 comfortable seats to give viewers an ethereal intimacy with performers. The Sir Mutha Venkatasubba Rao Concert Hall aims to be a performing arts centre for everyone, and its programme line-up will span all genres to encompass music, dance, theatre and visual arts, with an emphasis on Global Cultures & Entertainment.
